Nami Surgical Welcomes Kevin Houser as IP Champion and Advisor
Press Release

Nami Surgical is pleased to welcome Kevin Houser, P.E., as IP Champion and Advisor, bringing extensive experience in ultrasonic surgical technology, engineering and intellectual property strategy to the company.
Kevin was a key member of the Ethicon Endo-Surgery team at Johnson & Johnson, where he played an important role in the development of the Harmonic Scalpel ultrasonic product portfolio. As Lead Engineer and a technology inventor behind the Harmonic ACE™ platform, Kevin contributed to the development of a product line that went on to generate more than $1 billion in revenue, while also supporting the expansion of ultrasonic technology into clinical areas including orthopaedics and plastic surgery.
During his time at Ethicon, and later as Director of IP Strategy and Engineering Fellow, Kevin worked at the intersection of engineering, innovation and intellectual property, aligning technology and IP strategy with wider commercial objectives. His work helped strengthen patent activity and establish new approaches to intellectual property development across the organisation.
Commenting on Kevin’s appointment, Dr Rebecca Cleary, Co-founder and CTO of Nami Surgical, said:
“Kevin’s track record speaks for itself. He was part of the team that defined a surgical era with the Harmonic Scalpel. Having him join Nami is a major milestone, giving the company world-class expertise to drive both its technology and IP portfolio forward as it grows.”
Strengthening Nami’s intellectual property strategy
Kevin is a named inventor on more than 250 U.S. patents across multiple disciplines and has served as an expert witness in a number of significant intellectual property cases.
His combined experience in ultrasonic medical devices, patent prosecution, infringement analysis and IP portfolio development brings highly relevant expertise to Nami as the company continues to develop its technology and strengthen its intellectual property position.
As IP Champion and Advisor, Kevin will help shape and protect Nami’s intellectual property portfolio, while providing technical and strategic guidance as the company explores new clinical applications for its miniaturised ultrasonic scalpel platform.
He will work closely with Nami’s team and its intellectual property advisors at Lincoln IP, ensuring the company’s IP strategy develops alongside its technology and commercial ambitions.
Daniel Coward, Chartered UK and European Patent Attorney, commented:
“I’m excited to work closely with Kevin as part of Nami’s journey. His unique expertise in ultrasonic surgical technologies and intellectual property strategy will be invaluable as Nami works to expand its IP portfolio. Together, the aim is to protect Nami’s innovation in an area where advances in surgical technology have the potential to make a meaningful and immediate difference to patients’ lives.”
Kevin’s appointment adds further specialist expertise to Nami’s extended team as the company continues to develop its ultrasonic technology, expand its intellectual property portfolio and prepare for future growth.
