Nami welcomes David O’Reilly as the corporate strategy advisor of its Board of Directors

Press Release

Nami Surgical is delighted to welcome David O’Reilly as a Corporate Strategic Advisor, adding further international MedTech and life sciences expertise to the company’s extended team.

In his role, David will draw on his experience as a successful life sciences entrepreneur to provide strategic guidance to Nami, with a particular focus on international markets, commercial strategy and scaling globally.

Based in California, David has more than 30 years of experience across the medical technology and life sciences industries. As a founder himself, he has first-hand experience of financing and scaling innovation-led start-ups.

Throughout his career, David has held co-founder and executive roles at companies including Proteus Digital Health, Catalyst Biosciences, Iconix Biosciences and ARIAD Pharmaceuticals, and is a named inventor on more than a dozen issued and pending patents.

Commenting on the importance of bringing diverse expertise into growing MedTech companies, David said:

“MedTech companies now really work at the intersection of various industries, they’re hybrid companies that incorporate chemistry or biology, engineering, data science, software, computing, as well as the business skills to take the ‘invention’ as it were, into a successful solution and business. There’s a lot that has to go right, so bringing in expertise from those who have done it before can often be the gamechanger for early-stage companies.”

David is currently Managing Director of Bayview Biosciences, which provides strategic advisory, product development and financing services to companies and investors.

Speaking about what attracted him to working with businesses such as Nami, David added:

“I very quickly learned, from working with life sciences startups, that I really love working with scientists and engineers on projects that solve existing problems in healthcare and medicine. That’s why I do what I do.

My scientific background and then experience of the strategic management side of these businesses means that I can act as a translator of sorts for my technical colleagues, to help them build and scale more effectively. And I get a lot of joy from doing that.”

David joins Nami’s wider group of experienced advisors and Board members, bringing an additional international perspective as the company progresses its technology and commercial strategy.

He will work alongside Albert Nicholl, Nikki Palfrey, Rebecca Cleary and Nico Fenu, who collectively bring extensive experience across healthcare, MedTech and business.

Together, this breadth of experience will provide strategic insight and guidance as Nami continues to develop its technology and build relationships with the global surgical robotics industry..

Rebecca Cleary, Co-founder of Nami Surgical commented:

“Last year was one of the most successful yet in Nami’s journey so far, and to kick-start the year by welcoming a new member with the knowledge and skillset that David has, is another win for the business.

David has well and truly walked the path that we’re currently treading – and his insight and expertise will undoubtedly help us greatly for years to come.”
